Morris Garages (MG) Motors, a British automotive brand now owned by Chinese conglomerate SAIC Motor, has introduced its second vehicle in Pakistan, the MG ZS. This subcompact crossover SUV is positioned as a more affordable alternative to its predecessor, the MG HS, catering to the local market’s demand for budget-friendly yet feature-rich vehicles.
MG Motors entered Pakistan under the Automotive Development Policy 2016-20, with local partner Javed Afridi, CEO of Haier Pakistan, facilitating the setup of their assembly plant. Following the successful debut of the MG HS in November 2020, which garnered significant public interest, the MG ZS aims to replicate its predecessor’s success.
Exterior: The MG ZS features the distinctive MG “infinity chrome grill” complemented by Halogen headlamps, roof rails, and fog lights. It also includes LED daytime running lights and bi-function projector headlights, akin to the MG HS, along with 17-inch alloy wheels that enhance its sporty appearance.
Interior: Inside, the MG ZS offers a stylish and comfortable environment with leather seats and a leather steering wheel. A prominent 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system is central to the cabin, accompanied by climate control, steering-mounted controls, and powered mirrors for convenience.
Feature Highlights: Key features of the 1.5-litre international MG ZS variant include:
Engine: Powering the MG ZS is a 1.5-litre VTi-tech non-turbo engine, delivering 106hp and 141Nm torque, ensuring sufficient power for urban and highway driving.
Competition: In the Pakistani market, the MG ZS competes with vehicles like the Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla Altis X, and DFSK Glory 580 Pro, offering a compelling blend of features and affordability in the SUV segment.
